Asbestos Disposal


West Australian Health (Asbestos) Regulations 1992 and Department of Environment and Conservation guidelines require asbestos to be removed of in a safe and appropriate manner. The following guidelines will assist you to correctly dispose of your asbestos products at the Hanrahan Road Waste Minimisation Facility.

  1. Advise the Weighbridge Attendant that you have asbestos waste for disposal.
  2. The Weighbridge Attendant will not accept your load unless the asbestos is:
  • Wrapped in heavy duty plastic (200 micron thick) and sealed with adhesive tape to prevent asbestos fibres from being released.
  • No more than 3 sheets per bundle if being unloaded by hand
  • If bundles of no more than 30 sheets and placed on wooden cleats if unloaded by mechanical means
  • Unloaded by hand, slung or forklift
  • The City of Albany does not provide equipment for the unloading of material
  • TIPPING OF ASBESTOS IS NOT ALLOWED
  • Labelled with the words "Caution Asbestos" in letters not less than 50mm high (This is a transport requirement)
  • Left in a wrapped condition

If these conditions are not followed,your Asbestos will not be accepted at the city of Albany Waste Facilities.
